    Very disappointing.

The cassoulet at Daniel's was excellent, as were the stuffed peppers. The main criticism was being crammed into a conservatory-style area with small tables and little atmosphere.

Daniels has a great looking menu; it's difficult to choose! the portions are a good size and the food well cooked. the snails were fantastic and the fish soup was lovely. the cassoulet could do with a touch more garlic or wine, but thats just a personal peference! great wine list and friendly service. the staff will be happy to talk you through the menu. the puddings weren't quite as nice as the savoury dishes, but you can't have everything. a good place for a very casual lunch or dinner.

Daniel's in Leith sounds alot more interesting than the reality. Nice people but from the really great sounding menu the execution is rooted in the mid sixties bistro era. Very nice trad staff, some good bargains on the wine list. Best to stick to the simple things.

Everyone enjoyed their meal at Daniel's Bistro. Service was fantastic as always, good wine. Scallops for starter were amazing and the cassoulet was the tastiest I've ever had.

Dissapointed is what we are after choosing Daniels from the reviews given. Starters and mains were lovely. Dessert was a cop out shop bought and poor, eg. a danish cut into 4 with a scoop of icecream in the middle! Worst bread and butter pudding i've tasted, if you don't like angelica don't order this as it was overpowering. Service was unique. We were either left too long or rushed. Every dish, order or drink was served or taken by someone different. Too top of we were cold, lack of heating.

We had lunch for two from the set menu in the bright conservatory with a carafe of house wine. The meal was delicious and it took a lot of willpower to forego the bread and butter pudding which the majority of the other diners ordered.

Daniel's serves tasty and authentic French fayre in a pleasant environment overlooking the quay at Leith. Of particular note were the flavourful fish soup and the exquisitely-tender pork slow cooked on the bone. Service was efficient but unhurried. Well worth the trip from the centre of Edinburgh. Ask for a table in the conservatory at the back.

Daniels Bistro in Leith - easy parking, fairly standard menu, reasonably priced but nothing too adventurous. Handy for the visitor attractions, but perhaps not worth a trip for its own sake.
