Reviews of Acorn House Restaurant

Lunch at the Acorn House was excellent. The place was buzzing, but not too loud, so we were still able to have a conversation. Staff were attentive but not fussy, and we weren't at all rushed by them. I've been a few times now and one of the staff, who has been there each time, remembers me. Given how many people the staff must see in a week, this is a really nice touch.

The food quality at Acorn House was hit and miss - lucky for me i got 3 its but my husband got 3 misses. The location was great. The male toilets were apparently dire.

Acorn House is still one of my favourite restaurants. Food fantastic and a great menu. Shame both pasta dishes were off though, and my Tali, though delightful, seemed a little overpriced at £16.50?

Now don't get me wrong, I expect to pay a little bit more for an organic main course but £17.50 for a small wedge of onion and smoked cheese tart on a bed of leaves with a beetroot relish was, I felt, a little too pricey. Having said that the food was very tasty. The service could have been a little more attentive, especially when the restaurant started to fill up with dinner punters and our wine glasses were left empty for most of the main course. But it was a truly eco-friendly experience.

It's my second visit to Acorn House and it didn't disappoint at all. The food has changed with the seasons and is still fantastic. Great VFM for wonderful quality of food. Service was quicker this time and they were friendly with it.

Acorn House is no 21st-century gimmick. Although a little overpriced, firmly keeping Green issues among the chattering middle classes, we were all won over. My friend said his pigeon starter was grand, though my bland (where was the sweetness?) red pepper & sweet potato soup was saved by a glut of aioli. The mains shone, from the generous curry to the succulent lamb and the tender sea bream. Staff were always attentive and friendly, but not overbearing. Environmentalism never tasted so good...

This was my second visit to Acorn House and this experience was just as good as the first. Fantastic food, fabulous atmosphere and great staff.

Good food in a lovely restaurant. However, perhaps a restaurant with a self-professed 'eco-friendly' ethos should not push bottled water onto customers quite so much.

Acorn House is a great way to feel virtuous - locally sourced, healthy ingredients put together into delicious dishes thereby satisfying both body and soul!! Shame the venue is a little on the small side, and the prices a little on the large side, but you do get what you pay for, and it wouldn't put me off going again.

Food was absolutely lovely - apart from a slightly disappointing tarte tatin. Service could be a bit less apologetic about changes in the menu, but the atmosphere is great and relaxed. Wine list was a bit pricey, but overall a great night out.

Special anniversary meal at 'Acorn House', food was very good. I had White peach and prosciutto to start (a replacement for the advertised mozzarella), which was delicious. I had trout for my main which was beautifully cooked. My gf also enjoyed her food. I think I was expecting something a bit more memorable, but it had a nice atmosphere and the champagne we had was lovely. The bread and butter to start was great quality, as the menu is seasonal I would probably go back.

This was a real disappointment - the food was mediocre (avoid the risotto), the service was friendly but one waiter couldn't understand us, drinks were forgotten, we were left for ages with no service but asked how things were twice once we were served etc. It's pricing is somewhat over the top for what it is too. Real shame given the ethos of the place. Nice atmosphere though.

I went to Acorn House with 3 friends and had great food in a great place with a really good ambiance. Service for the main course was a bit slow, but otherwise the place was fantastic. Would and will recommend highly.

This is my third visit to Acorn House and as was the case all the other times, the food was excellent. It's great to go somewhere that you can get great tasting food that is seasonal and well sourced plus the ambience in the restaurant is always lively but relaxed and very unpretentious. I will definitely be going again.

This was my second time at Acorn and it was nice to see a different menu. My starter of salmon was lovely but my partner's risotto was a bit too runny. It was also quite busy in the restaurant and service was a bit slow but friendly. We were also not very impressed with having a 12.5% service charge automatically added to a bill when the prices are relatively high. Nevertheless, the dessert was delicious and the concept of the restaurant will bring me back again.

The service was not as good on this, our second trip to Acorn House, but the food was delicious as before. Our only complaint was that we felt the asparagus was a bit pricey given the amount of actual asparagus in the salad. The trout was fantastic, the lamb was flavoured unusually with a tarragon pesto and the risotto primavera was delicious.

Only the outside of the building let it down. Otherwise faultless.

We dined at Acorn House last night, opting for an after work meal. Unfortunately they change the menus at the start of the month so we had to wait for these to be printed. Likewise the food wasn't ready for ordering at our booked time, and it was some time before they told us we would have to wait. Pity they did not offer complimentary drinks in lieu of the wait. Food, however, was excellent, portions generous. It is expensive however, so best kept for a special occasion, unfortunately.

Acorn house provides truely scrumptious meals, in decent portions. Great for dinner or lunch their menu is seasonal and great for trying new things. They cater very well for allergies, having wheat, dairy and egg intolerance was no problem at all. Staff are friendly and helpful. There is a great buzz about the place. I have already recommended it to my friends and would definately go back when im in the area.

Once Acorn House has ironed out the service glitches that can keep you waiting 45 minutes for your main course, it will be a very worthwhile destination. At busy times, the close proximity of the tables can result in a rather cramped feel.

A real disappointment after reading the other reviews. On arriving we were given champagne and a small taster starter which was well rceeived as the service was so slow throughout the evening, only to find out when the bill arrived that we were being charged a £25pp cover charge (something the staff had forgotten to mention when we arrived). I wouldn't recommend unless you want to pay nearly £200 for a distinctly average experience.
