Rooms also come with sitting areas, flat-panel TVs, Wi-Fi (for an additional fee), marble bathrooms and either kitchenettes or wet bars and mini-fridges. On-site are three restaurants, serving everything from melt-in-your-mouth steaks and seafood to the celebrated Red Velvet cake and the famous Waldorf salad. The hotel also has a fitness center, concierge service, a spa, a salon and boutique shopping. Valet parking is available for an additional fee. Occupying an entire city block between Park and Lexington Avenues and 49th and 50th Streets, the Waldorf's famous silhouette has been glimpsed in countless Hollywood movies. Love the Waldorf. My only complaint is the costly in-room wireless. Meals are expensive, but I expected this. Rooms are spacious and staff is wonderful. The highlight is the Sunday brunch. My favourite New York hotel!

Pros: Beautiful rooms; excellent staff; spotless,
Cons: Expensive wireless.

The hotel charges separately for the fitness facility, the Wi-Fi, the mini bar that will bill you $100+ if you so much as look at it the wrong way; but I think there are really some missed revenue opportunities here. Where's the coin-operated bed? Couldn't the safe have required a credit card swipe? Why did you let me turn on the TV without billing me by the hour?

Pros: It certainly has a lot of character.
Cons: Mysteriously charged $100+ by the ridiculous "electronic mini bar"; double charged on my credit card; the second charge was immediately reversed, but not before costing me $60 in overlimit and exchange fees; attitude from reception when I called about it.
