Lovely elegant hotel in a...
Liked: I love the period details of this property, and the staff were AMAZING! (Especially Otto, from the restaurant, and all of the doormen, whose names escape me- they were all A++ incredible!!) The rooms are clean & comfortable, the restaurant is spectacular. Everything was wonderful, can’t say it enough!
Disliked: We had a small issue with the heating/cooling in our room, but they were extremely prompt in trying to fix it, and when it couldn’t be remedied, they moved our room immediately and credited us accordingly. I honestly can’t complain!

Perfect in every way.
Liked: Staying at the Algonquin has been something I always wanted to do. It was the only thing on my bucket list and the experience was everything that I hoped for.
Disliked: I can't think of anything I didn't like.

Very good
Liked: I liked the history of the hotel. It was clean and beautiful.
Disliked: I didn’t like that there was no in room dining, the prices for breakfast were outrageous (even for NYC standards. I also thought the room was a bit cramped and while we had a window, it faced a brick wall so there was very little natural light

Liked: We liked the beautiful lobby with the coffee station, the decor of the hotel and much of the staff were fantastic! Of course we also loved the house cat.
Disliked: We didn’t like the $30 a day debit added to our bill which had to be used as a credit in the hotel - bar or breakfast.

Liked: The hotel staff are lovely and friendly and supportive. The lobby has an amazing self serve coffee machine and I love the historic vibe which remains even though the round table is no longer prominent in the dining area.
Disliked: Nope. Not a thing.

Not worth it. Never again.
Liked: The location is exceptional! It's about 2 blocks to the Broadway theaters. It took only about 15 minutes from the train station to walk to it. The front doormen were super friendly, courteous, and helpful.
Disliked: The two horrendously poor mannered front desk women. A fright. Not a welcome to the hotel, welcome to NY, no "Is this your first time to the city?" not a smile, nothing. Just a straight business transaction. I paid a ridiculous inflated amount (totally my choice!) to stay there during the Christmas season because I thought it would be special for my adult daughter who had never been to NYC to stay at a place with history associated with it (the famous Algonquin Round Table group). I had been at the hotel for a conference in 1983 and had good memories of it. What a total disappointment to be not welcomed and made to feel we had made a good choice. Shameful. Not only would I never stay there again, I would definitely suggest to anyone they look elsewhere for accommodations. There are plenty of other places in the city in that same area. As an aside, the wallpaper in the bathroom was peeling off the wall and the building interior looks shabby and dated once you leave the entry level.
