The Hilton Midtown obviously doesn't need to work very hard to please it's guests. We were told at check in they have a 98% occupancy rate, largely due to convention and business travel. Too bad for those of us not on a company expense account.
Liked: Location is fabulous.
Disliked: This was our second stay in four years. There won't be a third. You expect a large hotel in the heart of midtown to be busy. And it is. What you should expect from a Hilton is service and convenience. This was not our experience. We didn't get our room cleaned on the first day because we were still in the room at 10 when housekeeping called. Amenities in our room did not include a mini bar, coffee maker or free wifi. Our room was accessible, which we did not request or require. This meant our bathroom was spacious with no counter space. Minor inconveniences that add up when you consider the room rate (high).

Room and location were fine....extra...
Liked: Good sized room for a week long stay. Beds are super comfortable, rooms are well sound proofed making for a quiet experience. Could use some updating but overall well maintained. Great location for museums, dining, times square, Rockefeller Center, and 5th Avenue shopping.
Disliked: Let's start with the mandatory $35 "resort fee"....this is not a resort. No complimentary coffee or water. $35 per day "credit" is not cumulative (contrary to what staff told us) and we ended up actually owing them more because we went over a couple of days, even though 2 of the 5 days we didn't come close to spending the whole $35. To add insult to injury, the coffee was very expensive (Starbucks was cheaper) and it was terrible coffee, ended up throwing it away a couple of times before we started going off site to get coffee. A glass of house wine was $25. This wasn't a cheap room, and I'm deeply disappointed in Hilton. I'm an honors member, and other Hilton stays provide complimentary water and coffee to Hilton Honors members. I can drink free bad coffee if I have to, but don't insult me by charging me for it on top of a "resort fee". Stop letting wait staff upsell by telling clients that resort fee is cumulative and to just insist on getting the whole credit for each day unless the front desk staff will honor this. When we checked in two different groups in front of us had issues with their key not working....and sure enough, day 3 of our stay, after an exhausting day, our keys failed to work and had to be reactivated at the front desk. As nice as the room was, these experiences far outweighed the positives and will make me reconsider Hilton on my next multiple night trip. This trip I didn't research other hotel chains because I have come to trust the Hilton brand. Next time I will be far less trusting and do more research into other options.

Superb
Disliked: Check in too slow at busy times (eg Friday afternoon). Needed more check in staff at that time.
