Liked: big rooms with sea views, lovely doorman/guy in lobby helping with bags
Disliked: pool was shut most of our stay was not informed about this prior, loud building work (sanding) started at 7am - not pleasant. disappointing considering the price per night. hotel bar charged me $35 for one drink which is outrageous, bar staff cheat you with a cup of ice and a small bit of liquid, already ran my card before showing the price - really nasty way of doing things, was only there for convenience but defo would not come back to hotel or bar.

Liked: This hotel was absolutely awful, few things were enjoyable.
Disliked: This hotel was absolutely awful. The pool was out of service for the entirety of our stay, even though we were emailed the day before our trip bragging about the pool and environment. We were told every day that it would be fixed the next day, but each day it remained closed. The shower also leaked with every use, filling the floor with puddles of water.

Disliked: they were renovating the lobby and sanding the deck of the pool starting at 7am until late. the noise was crazy!

Liked: The location was good and were the staff.
Disliked: The hotel needs renovation. The sink in our bathroom was peeling. The marble had been painted and the almost half of the paint was peeling off. The floor and furniture needs refinishing. There was no food service.

Liked: Pool area could not be more beautiful. The staff that supported the pool area such hard workers especially a young woman. We enjoyed your pool area soooo much. Housekeeping amazing at your hotel. Room was spotless. So happy I upgraded to a kitchen. So worth it. Adrienne the concierge very helpful. Parking was excellent.
Disliked: When we arrived, something wrong with temperature control on shower. My husband got scalded but maintenance came immediately to fix it. Restaurant service super slow. Most people don't have time to take that long for breakfast. Food was good though. Mattress on pullout couch in room 306 thin and full of broken springs. Very uncomfortable. Needs to be replaced. Beach was closed due to high levels of bacteria. Difficult to have so many homeless.

Iconic establishment with the perfect...

Liked: The location of the Shang-ri La was perfect for walking the boardwalk or accessing nearby restaurants and bars, and was still quiet despite being right on Ocean Ave. Room was clean and pretty big for being in Santa Monica, and was a great value to stay at an iconic establishment.
Disliked: There could have been more amenities at the hotel, and there was construction going on in the courtyard, which was noisy throughout the day.
