Liked: I wasn’t expecting too much, having just stayed in a Hilton Doubletree in downtown LA that left much to be desired. However I was wrong. This is clean, spacious and comfortable (ergo the other one was none of those things). Easy walk from Old Town Station after the Amtrak from LA; I’m not sure I’d stay in Old Town on holiday as it’s a bit limited but this was great for public transport and close to where I needed to be. Nice modern bathroom, ?recently refreshed. I had breakfast included and while I may not have paid for the buffet normally it was perfectly ok, and the waitstaff fantastic and friendly. I had dinner one night in the restaurant which was actually a pleasant surprise; really good burger and absolutely outstanding wait staff. Given this I’m guessing the non buffet breakfast is good but can’t say for sure.
Disliked: It’s quite expensive but then again it is San Diego. Front staff were fine but not in the same league as restaurant staff.

Other than the strong chemical...

Liked: Loved the staff, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Also loved how clean the hotel was.
Disliked: Construction was going on our floor, there was a strong smell of chemical or glue, I have a baby and I was concerned for her health. Beds were on the stiffer side and pillows were too small.
