Aloft Harlem is a nice hotel at a competitive price. The staff are friendly and real without that veneer of phoniness you get at a lot of other places. I would stay again if I needed a place in the area.
Liked: Nice room and bathroom with lots of sunlight. Staff is helpful and competent without being nosy or obsequious.
Disliked: No room service available.

Liked: Very helpful and friendly staff. Room was very clean and the bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in at a hotel. I would recommend this hotel and would stay again if in the area.

It has potential to be...
Liked: I loved the breakfast options that were prepared to order. The plant based breakfast sandwich was better than the impossible sandwich at Starbucks so 10/10. The room was spacious which I appreciate because NY is notorious for splitting a room to increase profits. I loved that I could control the temperature in my room.The front desk staff were all very kind and helpful.
Disliked: When I arrived, my bed sheets were clean, however the duvet in between them was filthy. The duvet was so dirty that it made the room smell like a homeless person. Once I removed those sheets the stench went away. I was so disgusted I doubled the sheets on my pillows, bed and asked for the old sheets to be taken immediately. The vents were all dusty and need to be cleaned and maintained. The rugs in the room need to be removed. The rug had a stain in my room and the corners were dusty. I wore socks with sandals just so my feet wouldn’t touch the rug and I placed all my belongs on the desk so that they wouldn’t touch the rug. The grout between the bathroom tiles needs to be cleaned with bleach to remove the mold that was in the corners. Finally, the hall smelled like weed once I turned to take the elevator. This I know is outside of the staffs control as people can be degenerates, but it’s sad and makes for an unpleasant experience.

Great value in the heart...
Liked: Very nice and attentive staff; great value, and clean facilities which were well-stocked
Disliked: Bathroom door didn't fully close, somewhat difficult to sleep with given pillows

Wouldn't stay again.
Liked: Vivienne at the front desk was lovely. She talked me through getting to the location and arranged for the valet of my car. She was lovely.
Disliked: There was trash all outside that someone could have picked up. The room was beat. There was wax melted onto the desk I needed to work on, The bottom of Formica desk was eroded, carpets could have been shampooed and the tile trim on floor was coming off the of the wall. The mattress on the bed was extremely uncomfortable, the mattress was high on one side than the other and I wasn't able to sleep well. I won't use Aloft again.

If you are looking to...
Liked: Overall, our stay at the Aloft was as expected as it is our go to hotel when having a layover in New York. It is located in the heart of Harlem and many of our favorite people and places are near by which makes travel seamless given NYC traffic. The staff are very accommodating and provide exceptional recommendations for events in the hotel and will gladly assist you with any plans in the city.
Disliked: Nothing bad to notate within our visit. We will be sure to return on our next layover in New York. Thank you again.

Quality & Service not what...
Liked: Close to Metrostation 125th Street - not in the best are of Harlem (a bit dodgy area)
Disliked: - Service: E-mailed + called ahead to mention I would check in earlier than my friend and that I do not have a CC. My friend does, but we would be paying by cash or bank card. I was assured it was all going to be ok. At check in my Meastro bank (debet)card (which is accepted world wide) didn't work, nor did the ATM in the hotel accept Maestro debet card (the logo was not on the machine). Rather than using the CC on file (which was good enough to guarantee the booking for months) for another couple of hours, I was made to wait 7 hours till my friend arrived, before I could go to my room. After an 8hr flight, I was forced to hang around the hotel for hours. I left my suitcase and went out to MacDonalds and Bath & Bodyworks where my bank card was accepted just fine. And then I still had several hours to kill...- Room: 1st night airco didin't work (but did make loud banging noises) and it was about 30 degrees Celcius in the room. Have not slept all night (after a reallly long day). It was "fixed" the day after, the banging noises remained.
